"But whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' (Luke 10:5-9)
The working out of heartfelt compassion is foundational in bringing true transformation in communities and cities around the nation and world. Gateway engages volunteers to reach out to the hurting in society–
being the hands and feet of Jesus by offering real help.
It is motivated by caring – being a tangible expression of God's love through acts of compassion, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through word and deed. Our faith motivates our action. It also motivates us to share the goodness of God with others.
While much of the sharing is done as we live our lives and work in our communities, there are times when specific events are initiated to have a broader impact.
At Gateway, we are currently engaged with 3 major compassion outreaches, as well as, other seasonal times of providing food and clothing to those in need.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Over 400 people came to Owl's Head Park in Bay Ridge in August to receive a back pack of free school supplies. There were also FREE HAIRCUTS - FREE FOOD - GAMES - MUSIC - SHARING THE WORD OF GOD and Prayer!
THANKSGIVING BOXES OF LOVE
Each Thanksgiving, Gateway blesses many families with a Thanksgiving meal. Goods are donated by the congregation and local merchants and the Compassion Team prepares a complete feast for Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings and sweets! The team then delivers the boxes door to door and offers prayer to all those who are receptive.
HIS TOY STORE
New toys are donated by the congregation and corporate sponsors, which Gateway sets up as a Toy Store. Families in need may come to receive up 3 new toys as supplies are available. Refreshments and a time of personal ministry for each family are offered.
THOSE IN NEED OF RECEIVING COMPASSION MINISTRY GOODS SHOULD CONTACT THE CHURCH OFFICE.
